Learning, Together: DLH Gathers for Black History Month Celebrations

This year’s Black History Month theme highlighted “African Americans and the Arts,” which gave DLHers a chance to honor and recognize Black and African American artistry through music, performing arts, literature, film, fashion, culinary, and folklore throughout the years.

The DLH community joined together for watch parties at DLH offices in Atlanta, Durham, Bethesda, and Charleston to view the documentary, “Through A Lens Darkly: Black Photographers and the Emergence of a People.” The film examines the Black and African American influence on community, identity, and cultural celebration through photography. Over pizza and popcorn, DLHers and their family members viewed the movie and held insightful discussions to reflect after.

To further celebrate the role of Black voices in the arts, The DLH team curated a Black History Month Celebration playlist on Spotify. Employees spent the month adding songs by their favorite Black singers and songwriters to our playlist. Interested in listening? Check out the playlist here.

Thank you to all those who took part in these opportunities during Black History Month.
