Public Health Research

DLH has decades of experience designing, conducting, and analyzing epidemiologic studies for a diverse customer base, including the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, National Cancer Institute, National Institute on Aging, Veterans Health Administration, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry.

We support federal agencies and other customers in the public health sector in study development and implementation, data collection and management, laboratory sample collection and processing, biostatistical analysis, and manuscript development.

Study Design and Implementation

DLH statisticians provide sampling design and sampling frame construction, and our epidemiologists and scientific staff assist investigators by designing scientifically valid protocols. Our research principles are to provide effective solutions, ensure ethical standards in the conduct of research, and produce consistent, reliable results.

Survey Research and Multi-Modal Data Collection

We use multi-modal data collection methods, such as web, mail, telephone, and in-person, to maximize response rates and minimize cost. Our Telephone Research Center supports multiple CATI applications for telephone data collection. DLH’s superior data collection and survey capabilities can seamlessly and securely transmit, clean, and analyze survey data. We have extensive experience creating and analyzing survey data files, including public-use files.

Participant Retention and Recruitment

We use a variety of methods, from social media to award-winning videos, to maximize recruitment and retention of diverse populations. Through clear messages and precise procedures, DLH works to minimize burden while maintaining interest.

Specimen Collection and Management

We provide expert consultation and services for all aspects of biologic and environmental specimen handling at our Level 2 biosafety laboratory facility. For environmental and biologic specimen collection, we design and implement collection protocols and manage the acquisition, processing, quality assurance, analysis, and storage of specimens.

Study Data Analysis and Reporting

Our epidemiologists and biostatisticians analyze data from prospective, cross-sectional, and retrospective epidemiologic studies. We have authored and coauthored extensively in high-impact epidemiology, public health, and medical journals.
