DLH Supports Student with Award for Excellence in Public Health Research

DLH is a proud supporter of the North Carolina Science Fair Foundation, which promotes science literacy in elementary-, middle-, and high-school students through participation and learning. Earlier this Spring, hundreds of students participated in the 2023 North Carolina Science and Engineering Fair, sharing their months-long research projects and learning from their fellow presenters.

Each year, the DLH Award for Excellence in Public Health Research is bestowed to one project. This year’s winner is high-school senior Venkata Varshith Vadlamudi from Enloe High in Raleigh, North Carolina. DLH commends Venkata for his outstanding research project, titled “RespiScope: A Novel, Low-Cost, Highly Accurate, Easy to use and Portable, Convolutional Neural Network Digital Stethoscope with Respiratory Disease Classification.”

Members of team DLH interviewed students about their projects and selected the DLH award winner during the fair. Alvita Byrd, Caroll Co, Dr. Sandra Halverson, and Toni Waymer served alongside 150 other volunteers and judges, without whose active participation this student competition could not have happened.
