DLH Gives Back with National Window of Service for Veterans 2023

DLH wrapped its 2023 National Window of Service for Veterans (NWS) campaign last month! NWS is a DLH Cares initiative that runs annually from September 11 (Patriot Day) to November 11 (Veterans Day). This is a service campaign to give back to Veterans and Military Members, and a chance to stand side-by-side with those who have served our nation.

NWS encourages employee participation in civic engagement and illustrates our commitment to giving back to the communities in which we live and work. This year, DLH employees participated in many events and activities to support the health, wellness, and happiness of Veterans.

Providing Resources to Homeless Veterans

DLH team members gathered for two VA Stand Downs. VA Stand Downs are events where homeless Veterans can acquire supplies and services, such as food, shelter, clothing, and health screenings. Veterans can also receive referrals to other assistance such as health care, housing solutions, employment, substance use treatment, and mental health counseling.

In September, our team welcomed over 50 Veterans to the Durham-regional Veteran’s Resource Fair by serving donuts and hot coffee. Between the beautiful weather on a fall morning and the inspiring conversations with local Veterans, it was a wonderful event. A few weeks later, DLH team members met up at the VA Stand Down in Augusta to hand out hot meals to over 50 Veterans.

Walking for a Cause

Throughout NWS, DLH team members across the country got together for walks on behalf of DOVE (Donor Outreach for Veterans) Transplant. DOVE acts as Veterans’ donor champion by identifying, screening, and educating prospective donors and matching them to Veterans in need of kidney transplants.

Our teams in Durham, Charleston, Bethesda, and Atlanta enjoyed a casual 30-minute walk in honor of Veterans and active Military Members, especially those who have successfully received a kidney transplant from DOVE. DOVE representatives, who included Veterans waiting for a kidney transplant, those who have donated a kidney, and Veterans who received a kidney, joined DLH at the walks. We also encouraged donations from friends, family, and the community to raise money for DOVE’s cause at each walk location.

Thanking our Frontline Workers

Team DLH participated in an uplifting initiative that celebrated our extraordinary frontline workers at our CMOP (Consolidated Mail Outpatient Pharmacy) facilities, which serve our nation’s Veterans every day by fulfilling life-saving prescriptions to Veterans across the country.

DLH employees wrote thank-you cards to our CMOP frontline workers to show gratitude for their dedication and hard work. These small acts of gratitude help make a positive impact on those who make such a significant impact on the lives of others.

Thank You

DLH sends our tremendous thanks to all those who participated, volunteered, and donated to each NWS event this year. We are grateful for your time, effort, and support. Your contributions help make a significant impact to give back to our Veterans who have given so much.
