DLH epidemiologist Constance Ruhl is among the authors of an article in the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology that describes an analysis of demographics, lifestyle patterns, and clinical characteristics of people with celiac disease (CD) and people without CD who avoid gluten (PWAG) to better understand associations with medical conditions and consumer behavior among 22,000 participants in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Results confirmed that CD and PWAG share autoimmune comorbidities, and that PWAG had more autoimmune/allergy-related disorders that may be associated with non-celiac gluten sensitivity. The article is coauthored by researchers from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, Baylor College of Medicine, National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, and Mayo Clinic.
